Joe Wicks introduces a family-friendly cookbook to make healthy eating fun for children

Joe Wicks is adding another title to his already sizeable cookbook collection with “Healthy Start”, a family-focused book built around simple, nutritious meals designed to get children more involved in the kitchen. According to the Yorkshire Post, it is his 14th cookbook and centres on recipes that aim to make healthy eating feel less like a chore and more like a shared activity.

The book places a strong emphasis on food that works for parents and children alike. Related coverage of the title says Wicks wants to encourage families to expose children to a wider range of ingredients early on, using bold flavours, colourful dishes and approachable methods to help overcome fussiness. The result is a collection that moves across breakfasts, lunches, curries, pizzas, pastas and tray bakes, with more than 80 recipes in all, according to the publisher listing on Google Books.

That approach is reflected in the recipes highlighted from the book. Among them is a Thai red curry with prawns and aubergine, which Wicks says is an easy cupboard-friendly meal if a cook keeps coconut milk and curry paste to hand. There are also beetroot falafel burgers with tahini sauce, and cheesy smashed beef quesadillas, which Wicks describes as a good option for cooking with children and serving when friends come round.

The recipes underline a broader message that runs through the book: healthy food does not need to be bland, and children are often more willing to eat well when they have helped prepare what is on the plate. For families juggling time, taste and pickiness, “Healthy Start” appears to offer practical meals with enough flexibility to suit both everyday dinners and more playful weekend cooking.
