Brazil’s annual multivaccination drive aims to update immunisation records for children and adolescents, combining multiple vaccines in a bid to tackle declining coverage and prevent disease outbreaks across the country.
Brazil has launched its annual national multivaccination drive, with health authorities using the campaign to bring children’s and adolescents’ immunisation records up to date across the country. Running from 3 August to 1 September, the effort is aimed at those under 15 and asks local health services to check each child’s vaccination card and administer, in a single visit where possible, any doses still outstanding.
Rather than focusing on one infection, the campaign brings together several vaccines from the national schedule. Among those on offer are shots against polio, measles, mumps and rubella, hepatitis A and B, rotavirus, meningitis, yellow fever, HPV, influenza and Covid-19, with dengue vaccine included in municipalities where it is part of routine immunisation.
The Ministry of Health says the mobilisation is designed to help rebuild coverage after years of decline. Although uptake has improved since 2023, the ministry has warned that gaps between states and municipalities still leave some children and teenagers exposed to preventable diseases. In previous rounds, the government paired the campaign with microplanning in the states, wider publicity and targeted action in areas with weaker coverage.
The drive will include a national Day D on 22 August, alongside local measures such as school-based vaccination, mobile units, extended opening hours and active searches for children and teenagers who are behind on their doses. The approach reflects an effort to reach families beyond traditional clinics and to prevent diseases that had previously been controlled from regaining ground.
