Richmond.com has reworked its e-Edition, integrating modern features and seamless user support to bring print and digital seamlessly together for its readers, boosting engagement and offering a richer, more accessible experience.
Richmond.com has been reworking the way readers move between print and digital, with its redesigned e-Edition becoming a more central part of the site’s subscriber offering. The overhaul, launched in August 2022 with TownNews, was designed to make the digital replica feel closer to the printed paper while improving usability for people reading on screens.
According to Richmond.com, the updated e-Edition added easier navigation, a live-view experience and a clipping tool that lets subscribers save or print stories. Executive Editor Chris Coates said at the time that the aim was to give readers digital access that felt simple and useful, and the response was strong enough to lift engagement with the product.
The upgrade also fits into a broader push by the newspaper to reduce friction for subscribers who need help getting in, managing their accounts or finding content. Richmond.com’s Help Centre now steers users towards self-service options for billing, activation, login support, newsletters and e-Edition access, reflecting a model in which readers are expected to move between formats without needing to call customer service first.
That matters because the e-Edition is not just a convenience feature. Richmond.com describes it as the newspaper’s digital replica, available each morning, and the site’s support pages suggest the paper sees it as one of the main ways subscribers can keep pace with daily coverage. For readers who still prefer the look and feel of a printed newspaper, the redesign is intended to preserve that experience while making it easier to use on a phone, tablet or computer.
