The Indonesian National Nutrition Agency plans to expand its Free Nutritious Meals programme significantly by 2027, targeting more than 72 million beneficiaries including schoolchildren and pregnant women, supported by a dedicated budget of Rp232.50 trillion.
The National Nutrition Agency has set an ambitious target for the Free Nutritious Meals programme in 2027, aiming to reach 72,464,886 beneficiaries, according to agency chief Sudaryono. He told a hearing with the House of Representatives’ Commission IX in Jakarta on Thursday that the programme would have a dedicated menu budget of Rp232.50 trillion.
The bulk of the beneficiaries, 60,599,777 people, would be schoolchildren and students, from early childhood education through to senior secondary level, including special-needs schools and Islamic boarding school students. Sudaryono said that group would account for Rp198.96 trillion of the spending.
The remaining 11,865,109 beneficiaries would be pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and infants, with Rp33.54 trillion earmarked for them. The agency said the 2027 target sits above the 64.94 million figure set under the national medium-term development plan, suggesting the programme is being scaled up faster than the baseline planning assumption.
Reporting from multiple Indonesian outlets also indicated that the agency’s broader 2027 budget request could reach about Rp240.2 trillion, with the nutrition programme taking up the vast majority of that sum. Antara reported that the allocation is intended to ensure the programme can meet the national nutrition target on a wider scale.
