Tianyue Sun is building a research programme aimed at one of the most difficult early milestones for children with autism and developmental delays: moving from little or no speech to useful communication. Her work, developed after training at Columbia University’s Teachers College, focuses on interventions that help young children learn to vocalise, discriminate speech sounds and respond accurately to imitation so that language can emerge more reliably in everyday settings.
