New research highlights the complex interplay between genetics and environment in obesity risk

Emerging studies reinforce that inherited biology plays a significant role in obesity, but environmental factors can mitigate genetic risk, challenging the notion of personal failure as the sole cause.

Obesity is not simply a matter of personal discipline. A growing body of research suggests that inherited biology exerts a powerful influence on body size, appetite and the way the body stores energy. In one recent study cited by Campo Grande News, researchers linked parental genetics to children’s likelihood of obesity, reinforcing the wider scientific view that weight is shaped by a mix of heredity and environment.
