New York State has introduced an online measles dashboard as health officials warn of increasing cases and emphasise the importance of vaccination, urging families and healthcare providers to stay vigilant.
New York State has begun publishing a measles dashboard as health officials warn of a rise in infections and urge families to check their vaccination status. The Department of Health says the online tool is meant to help residents judge possible risks in the places where they live, work and travel, while also giving providers a clearer view of the evolving situation.
State Health Commissioner James McDonald said residents should make sure they and their children are protected against measles, and asked healthcare workers to stay alert for symptoms and be ready to diagnose and treat cases. The department says measles spreads easily through coughing and sneezing, and that the MMR vaccine remains the strongest defence.
According to the state’s health department, the dashboard tracks confirmed cases reported through the Communicable Disease Electronic Surveillance System for New York State residents outside New York City. It is updated weekly and shows data through the previous Saturday, with officials warning that the figures are preliminary and may change as investigations continue.
The launch comes after a series of measles reports in recent years, including cases in Nassau County in 2024 and infections in Suffolk, Orange and other counties in 2025. In both years, state health officials repeatedly urged New Yorkers, especially young children, to stay current with the MMR vaccine as part of efforts to limit further spread.
