Yolo County Library now provides free Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) kits at all branches, offering families an accessible way to monitor their child’s development from birth to five and connect with local support services.
Yolo County Library is now offering Ages and Stages Questionnaire kits at every branch, giving families a free way to check on a child’s development from birth to age five. According to the Daily Democrat’s report, the initiative is meant to make developmental screening easier to access for parents and caregivers across the county.
The kits include questionnaires and hands-on materials that help adults look at milestones in communication, motor skills, problem-solving and social-emotional development. Kaplan Early Learning says ASQ materials are designed to help families and educators observe those areas and decide on next steps if a child may need more support.
The screening tool is not a diagnostic test, and the library says the kits are also available for childcare and early learning providers. Super Duper Publications describes the ASQ-3 starter kit as a package that brings together questionnaires, scoring sheets and guides, while Yolo County Library says its branches keep the materials on hand alongside copies of the questionnaires.
Library staff can also connect families with local help through First 5 Yolo’s Help Me Grow Yolo programme, which offers free developmental screenings for children aged 0 to 5, according to the organisation. Help Me Grow Yolo says families can reach its child development specialists for information, support and referrals. Yolo County Library says more information is available through its website.
